Let’s Help Out Independent Substack Writers!
Hi, everyone. Today, I’m going to do something a bit different and put in plugs for three of my favorite Substack writers who put out amazing, necessary content, but could use some more subscribers. To be clear, they are not paying me to do this. No one is making me do this but me, as a kind gesture to help spread the word about these special newsletters.
The Mouthy Renegade Writer
Mouthy currently has two publications running on Substack, “You Have the Right to Remain Mouthy” and “Smiling Through the Tears.” The Mouthy writer is a no nonsense, yet laid back every day family man who frequently brings his wife, kids and favorite dog Libby the Mooch into the dialogue of his everyday topics.
With “You Have the Right to Remain Mouthy,” he stands up for justice and democracy each day, trashing Trump and MAGAts with humor pieces full of sick burns and clever laughs. I’ve been inspired by him to inject my own fearless political humor into my Substack articles. He posts two articles on this publication, along with a daily informal podcast entitled “The Renegade Writer’s Mouthy Musings.”
In “Smiling Through the Tears,” Mouthy posts short fiction pieces designed to bring everyone closer to humanity and make you cry while being able to take a break from the constant Trump bullshit.
If you’re Christian or into religion, Mouthy has also set up a Substack for his father, who hosts a weekly “Godcast.”
Robert Hubbell
If you’re looking for accurate coverage of daily political news through a lens of hope and empowerment, check out “Today’s Edition” by Robert Hubbell!
Each morning, even if I have to get ready for work at the same time, Robert’s publication is the first thing I open. Robert dispels any doomsdaying and reminds us that we are not potted plants, and that so long as we never give up, we will win the fight against MAGA and Trump.
Robert also typically includes actions you can take, as well as links to interesting upcoming virtual or in person events with pro-democracy leaders, some of which include Robert himself.
Each article comes with his own voiceover, and for the last year, he’s hosted a Substack live for readers to attend on Saturday mornings. Amidst all the chaos, Robert is a calm, sturdy rock that all of us could use.
Ben Ulansey
Ben publishes “The Gen Z Report,” and covers pop culture both old and new from the viewpoint of a professional, insightful writer who is also of Generation Z and is steadfastly against the Trump regime.
If you’re looking for thoughtful and detailed reviews about stories in our pop culture as well as trying to figure out how to move through the noise of our current environment, look no further than Ben!
He also will frequently be in Substack Live chats with Walter Rhein and others to discuss their favorite movies and shows.
This one is the most urgent of the three, as he said he could end up shuttering his newsletter soon if he doesn’t see more support, particularly in the paid subscriptions.
